How to Stay As a Winner at Online Casinos

by Todd Duan

There are many online casinos that are popping up everywhere. Chances are, the thought of joining and winning at one of these casinos may have crossed your mind. However, most people do end up losing money in casinos. Here are 5 simple tips on how you can stay as a winner.

Tip 1: Sign up and get a free bonus.

Tip 2: Stick with familiar games.

Tip 3: Play games that require skills.

Tip 4: Know when to quit.

Tip 5: Be mindful of the time.

Tip 1: Sign up and get a free bonus.

For beginners and newcomers, it’s always good to sign up with a casino that offers attractive bonuses. Most of these websites will need you to make an initial deposit (to make sure that you are a genuine player) but they will match the amount of money that you have deposited. So when starting out, even if you are losing, you are losing the money that was given to you. That helps to minimize the risk of losing your initial deposit.

Tip 2: Stick with familiar games.

If you are just going in for entertainment, and you don’t mind losing, you are welcome to try out different games. Trying out different games give you a new experience, and can be refreshing. However, since you are new to these games, you are unlikely to win. You may, of course, get lucky and win a bundle. But in the long run, if you want to stay as a winner, stick with games that you are familiar with.

Tip 3: Play games that require skills.

Some card games like poker require more than just luck – you need skills to continue winning. Skillful players can win big on lucky days. But even on unlucky days, they tend to be able to minimize their losses by making smart play decisions. The higher your skill level, the higher the chance of winning. Therefore, it pays to spend time practicing. In the beginning, play with others who are slightly better than you, but manage your risks by not playing with large amounts. When you feel more confident, you can always increase the stakes!

Tip 4: Know when to quit.

Of all the tips, this is perhaps the most important tip. Experienced gamblers always know when to quit! It’s the amateur gamblers who continue losing at the table. These are often those who are not convinced that they will be losing all the time. So they bet with larger amounts, in the hope that they will win back what they have lost. This is a grave mistake. Usually, they end up losing more than what they can afford to lose.

To overcome this problem, promise yourself to leave the table if you are lost a fixed amount of money. Make this decision before hand. Consider yourself a winner if you manage to do this. You can’t do anything about having a bad day. But you can always leave and come back some other day.

Tip 5: Be mindful of the time.

The casino will be open 24 hrs, waiting for you. In other words, the website has all the time in the world. But you don’t. So always be mindful of the time. If you forget the time and get too engrossed in the game, it’s easy to lose what you have won. Ask yourself how much time you are going to spend on entertainment. Win or lose, you leave when you time is up. That way, you get the entertainment value out of playing the game, and stay a healthy winner.

Melbourne Cup

Melbourne Cup

by Adel Awwad

Australia’s premier horse racing meeting is The Melbourne Cup. Thoroughbreds who are three years old or more are eligible to compete on this 3,200 meter ‘two mile’ handicap, thought by many to be the greatest in the world. For some years called ‘The race that stops a nation,’ the Melbourne Cup happens annually on the first Tuesday of November on Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse. The competition is organized and governed by the Victoria Racing Club, founded in 1864. The day of the Cup used to be a public holiday within the city of Melbourne, and is now a holiday in all the state of Victoria and in the Australian Capital Territory.

The record racing time is 3 minutes, 16.3 seconds, set in 1990 by Kingston Rule. The previous record holder was Rain Lover’s 1968 time of 3 minutes, 19.1 seconds, set before the 1972 alteration of the distance in response to Australia’s switching over to the metric system.

The first ever Melbourne Cup was held in 1861, when the prizes included a gold watch and cash. Seventeen horses competed, with Archer, ridden by the Aboriginal J Cutt, from winning. Legend has it that he walked 800km from Nowra, New South Wales to the track, but it is more likely that he was transported by boat. About 4,000 people watched that historic first Cup.

In 1876, the three-year old filly Briseis won the Melbourne Cup, along with the VRC Oaks and the VRC Derby in the incredibly short period of six days. This record remains unequalled. Briseis was ridden by thirteen-year old Peter St Albans. St Albans was also the second Aboriginal jockey to win the race, following in the footsteps of J Cutt.

The 2007 champion was Efficient, ridden by Michael Rodd, trained by Graeme Rogerson, and owned by Lloyd Williams. Efficient was the second horse to win the Victoria Derby and then the Melbourne Cup the year after. Viewed won the 2008 Melbourne Cup, ridden by Blake Shinn, and trained by Bart Cummings.

Since 1919, the trophy has been designed in the shape of a three-handled gold cup. The victorious trainer and jockey are awarded a smaller replica of the cup. However, the trophy has altered in its appearance over the years, with several featuring model horses. After such designs as a silver bowl manufactured in the UK and a silver cup depicting Alexander taming horses, an Australian-built gold trophy was introduced in 1876.

In 1985, the Melbourne Cup became the first million-dollar race in Australia. That year, the competition was won by What a Nuisance and attended by Prince Charles and Princess Diana of the British Royal Family. They arrived by boat in some style. These days, the prize money is around AUD$5.5 million, plus trophies worth around AUD$100,000. There are also smaller cash prizes for those finishing second to tenth place. Any horse that achieves the feat of winning the Irish St Leger and the Melbourne Cup in the same season receives an AUD$500,000 bonus.

The Melbourne Cup is usually attended by over 100,000 people, some dressed up in formal attire, others wearing fancy dress or comedy costumes of another kind. The record attendance was 122,736 in 2003. The 100,000 mark was first passed during the 1926 competition. A crowd limit was placed in 2007, and attendees are now required to order tickets before the event takes place.

A major aspect of the Melbourne Cup is the ‘Fashions On The Field’ event, with prizes awarded to the best-dressed man and woman in the crowd. Melbourne’s milliners are more or less kept afloat by the race goers’ need for elegant headwear. When legendary model Jean Shrimpton wore a miniskirt during the Cup week in 1965, suddenly the world took a keener interest in the competition.

Winning Texas Holdem Strategy

Winning Texas Holdem Strategy

by Adel Awwad

In any type of game, strategy is an important part of winning. Adapting to the differences in each game, understanding the importance of position and realizing that knowledge is essential are three main parts of Texas Holdem strategy. There are many different approaches to strategy, but if a player uses these three key parts, then they should discover they have a winning strategic approach.

Adapting to the differences in the game is an important part of strategy. Not every approach works in every situation. A player that finds, during the course of the game, that another player is picking up on their strategy may need to change their style a little to throw the other player off. Being able to make quick decisions and being flexible with game play is also part of adapting. Adapting is relevant in every game, every time Texas Holdem is played. A player who does not adapt will find keeping up a winning strategy is difficult.

Understanding the importance of position is most relevant to the game of Texas Holdem than any other poker game. Texas Holdem is based on the fact that the position a player is in has great influence over that player’s game. Position is based on literally where a player sets during the game. The ideal position is to have a player on the right side that bets often and high. On the left side a player wants someone who does not win often. This ideal position sets the player up to win big more often. It is also a good position to be the last player to act. This allows the player an advantage of seeing the other players’ actions and the ability to get basic information about their hands. Position can often times mean the difference between a bad game and a good game.

The biggest advantage to a winning strategy is information. A player who keeps themselves informed throughout the game will have the best odds of winning. A strategy that includes observation and the gathering of information sets a player up to be able to determine other players’ actions and bet accordingly. Texas Holdem is all about information and how a player uses it. A player should aim to get as much information as possible while giving little information to other players.

Strategies differ from player to player and from game to game. The idea behind a winning strategy is to be able to make it work in any game. This means being able to adapt it to the situation of the game, having a good position and gathering information. A strategy may change or be altered throughout a game of Texas Holdem. The basic structure of a winning strategy, though, is made up of the three key parts regardless of its implementation.

Winning Poker Hands

Winning Poker Hands

by Adel Awwad

Do you like to play poker? If so, you have something in common with the millions of other Americans who have caught “poker fever.” Thanks in large part to the explosive popularity of such big-money televised poker tournaments like the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Open, the game of poker is fast becoming a top sport. Texas Hold’Em is the most popular poker variation played, but millions enjoy engaging in games of Omaha, Five-Card Draw, Pai Gow, or other popular variations played at thousands of online casinos.

Of course, all these poker enthusiasts know about the power of a winning poker hand. If you’re new to poker, you might not be familiar with what makes a winning poker hand. There are some poker variations in which winning hands differ from the norm, but for the most part they are the same. Once you learn the ranking order of poker hands, you can play with more confidence when you don’t have to refer to a “cheat sheet” to find out if you have the makings of a winning hand!

What makes a winning poker hand? In most game variations, including Texas Hold’Em, the highest possible hand is the coveted Royal Flush. This hand consists of five cards in sequential order from 10 to Ace, all in the same suit (for example, the Ten, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace of diamonds). Below the Royal Flush is a Straight Flush, which are any five sequential cards of the same suit (like the 3-4-5-6-7 of clubs). Next in order is the Four of a Kind (four same-value cards, one in each suit); then the Full House (three same-value cards plus a pair, such as three 8′s and two Queens); followed by a Straight (five cards in sequential order of any suit). These are the top five winning poker hands.

There are five other poker hands possible in most variations. In descending order, they are the Flush (five cards of the same suit in any order); Three of a Kind (three same-value cards plus two non-matching cards); Two Pair (for example, two 4′s and two Jacks); One Pair (any two matching cards), and High Card (a hand with no matching cards). In most casino play, the High Card hand does not receive any winnings; however, in the rare instances when a High Card hand beats all other hands in a tournament, it certainly counts. Being familiar with winning poker hands makes for a fun game of poker. Here’s hoping you are dealt a Royal Flush!

Why Do People Gamble?

Why Do People Gamble?

by Adel Awwad

Gambling is the act of wagering money on the outcome of a game in the hope of predicting the correct outcome and winning the bet.

Why do people gamble?

Feeling lucky: Whether its buying a lottery ticket, participating in a bingo game or playing the slot machine, many people gamble because they are simply feeling lucky. How many times have you taken a chance on something because you had a good feeling about it?

To have fun: It’s not always about the money, but more about the adrenaline rush and the thrill and excitement of the game. The emotional highs and lows one may experience during a game may sometimes be sufficient enough to keep the player addicted to the game.

Financial need: Gambling as a means of trying to satisfy a financial need is without a doubt, a very dangerous and unhealthy practice. Gambling should be viewed as a recreational activity and not as a means of making money, especially when considering the fact that the player can’t afford to lose the money being gambled with.

Escape: Sometimes life can become very boring and mundane and we look for ways to escape the reality of our lives. Whether its due to a simple case of boredom, or an unhappy home environment, gambling at a casino may sometimes provide a brief means of escaping from the reality of one’s life.

Relaxation: As a means of relaxating and letting one’s hair down, gambling can be a great way to unwind from the many stresses of life. The pleasant, elegant and relaxing atmosphere of the casino itself can be a major source of appeal in itself.

To win money: Gambling presents an excellent means to win easy money. Of course, it can also be a great way to lose money, but the eternally optimistic gambler prefers not to dwell on the possibility of such an outcome.

Worthwhile cause: Wagering to support a good cause (i.e. charity) can be all the motivation one needs to place a few innocent bets. If the player wins the bet, then that is a bonus for the player, but if the player loses the bet, then at least it will be lost to aid a worthwhile cause.

Socializing: The pleasant and relaxing atmosphere of the casino is a great place for friends and family to socialize. Whether it’s at the casino restaurant or the bar, people often visit a casino to simply socialize, meet new people and catch up with friends.

Although a great number of people will visit a casino and gamble for the purpose of making money, the majority of casino visitors will visit a casino and gamble for a variety of different reasons.

Why Are Slots So Popular?

January 28, 2010 :: Posted by - admin :: Category - English

Why Are Slots So Popular?

by Adel Awwad

If you took the revenue away from casinos that they get from slot players, the casinos would be considerably less profitable. Regular slots, progressive slots and video poker machines are the bread and butter of the casino industry. This is true in both land and Internet casinos. In a live casino look at the floor space the casinos allocate to the slots on their casino floors. Online you see a huge variety of slots and video poker games. Very smart marketing people run casinos. There is no way they would offer all of the slots that they do, if the slots were not as popular with players. This one aspect of casinos has been in place since Las Vegas was just a dusty desert town. The only change has been the increase in the slot games and the number of people who are willing to play them. When you add the huge progressive slot jackpots to the mix, you have a situation that is conducive to more play and more slot players. This was a manufactured popularity initially to the casino market. Now, it has become an ever-increasing part of the casino ambience and a bottom line provider. Slot players love to play slots. It is as simple as that when the question is asked, why are slots so popular. The basic reason for this popularity is the play on slots takes very little preparation. Slots are easy to play and take no time at all to learn how to play. There is no learning curve like there is with craps or Blackjack.

Video poker takes the love of slots to a new level. Skill is part of the game in most video poker games. This ability to influence the outcome of each game accounts for the terrific popularity Video poker holds with the customers of online casinos. This factor along with the constant new games that are announced almost on a monthly basis is another part to this exploding gain in play.

Regular slots and progressive jackpot slots reward pure luck and no other factor. There is no learning curve with these slots and this alone would make them playable to all players. There is absolutely no skill involved or learning the intricacies of these slots. A player decides the amount of the wager and then pushes a button and hopes it is his lucky day. This makes the games playable by both new and old time casino players. Playing time and years of experience is not needed to win at these games. This alone is a sufficient reason for players to flock to the slots. Unlike many table games or poker, the slots do not take time to learn to play well. A freshly minted player can play any slot game with equal chance of winning as a player who has played the game for years. Craps and roulette take some time to learn to play so the house edge is at the minimum. A few minutes of play is more than enough time to learn to play any slot machine. Again this facet of slot play makes them very popular with the average player who frequents an online or live casino. They do not want to spend time learning to play; they just want to spend their time playing. Pots and jackpots are another inducement for players to spend time playing the slots. There are few other bets in the casino that can give a player a chance at winning a very large amount of money. This wager cost very little in relation to the prize that could be won. Slots payoffs online are going way past one million dollars for small bets. This group of factors has captured a segment of loyal players to many casinos. This constant cash flow with its predetermined win percentage is one of the best ideas that casinos have ever come up with. If table games were as popular as slots, the casinos would never make the money they do from slot play. For this reason, the casinos feed this group of players a constant diet of new games and new progressive jackpots to wager for. The excitement of winning a substantial jackpot is what keeps players coming back, even if they have never won a jackpot themselves. No wonder the casinos advertise the winners of big jackpots. Online casinos make news announcements all of the time when a player makes a big score. Live casinos have walls of winners pictured to show that the winners were just average lucky Joes. Slot players imaginations are pushed and fed the idea that anybody can get lucky and win. No learning, skill or decisions to make, just get real lucky for a moment in time. Even a new player can win at these games.

Conclusions

Without slot play many casinos would not exist and they know it and push it to the extreme by offering monstrous jackpots. Players hope that they will be the lucky player who gets the big payoff and their picture taken. There is no need to read books to learn to play. Years of play are not a requirement for winning. Hidden points of play that only are revealed by playing are not there and will not make a difference in the chances of winning. Luck and only luck is the only necessity for winning at this game. That alone is reason enough for many players to play the slots at any casino site or facility. The dream of making a big score is an attraction that cannot be over estimated for any one who questions why slots are so popular. When a second in time can make a slot player an instant millionaire it is easy to see why people take the risk to catch that fleeting moment As long as people have the desire to gamble, the slots will be with us online or in a brick casino. Slots have become a staple in casino gaming like no other form of gambling.

Who Are The World’s Best Poker Players?

Who Are The World’s Best Poker Players?

by Adel Awwad

If there is one game that puts the brain into an exercise, it has got to be poker. Nothing jogs the gray matter better than a card game that requires deft skill and slick style. While some variations of the game relies more on luck and good fortune, poker remains to be a thinking game. Only the most brilliant – or imaginative – minds can truly triumph and claim the title “master of the game”.

While many players have won a game or two on the table, they are no match for the following individuals, who have declared victory almost every time the cards are dealt in front of them. With their many winnings and rich experience that only gets better each day; they have rightfully earned the right to be proclaimed as one of the world’s best poker players.

Phil Hellmuth – Phil proves that one need not be old in order to become a seasoned player. He bagged the top prize at the Time World Series of Poker (WSOP) Championship at the age of 24, making him the youngest player to ever become a World Champion. Phil has a record of nine gold bracelets (comparable to a gold medal) to his name, on top of the big cash winnings that he took home. To date, he is a best-selling author of poker-themed books such as Playing like the Pros, Bad Beats and Lucky Draws. He is also one of the featured writers of Card Player Magazine, a testimonial to his expertise of the game.

Daniel Negreanu – Kid Poker may be his name on the playing tables but he definitely plays like a pro. He has already tucked more than 35 victories under his belt which is why it comes as no surprise that he was hailed as the 2004 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and Card Player Magazine Player of the Year. And as if the laurels were not enough, Daniel also bagged the 2004 Player of the Year Runner Up title. Because of his obvious passion and proficiency of the game, Daniel now reaches out to a wider audience as a writer for the Canadian Saturday Night Magazine and a spot on ESPN News.

Antonio Esfandiari – Antonio surely lives up to his moniker – “The Magician”. A magician by profession, it is no wonder that Antonio became famous for his captivating dance moves and magic tricks on the playing table. Aside from bagging the first place at the LA Poker Classic No Limit Hold’ Em Championship, he made three WPT Final Table appearances. One of the bad boys of poker, Antonio’s showcase of talent was featured in one of the DVD’s of the Going All in Poker DVD set.

Gus Hansen – Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, Gus, nicknamed “The Great Dane”, is a very lethal opponent to have. He showcases a very aggressive playing style that has won him three World Poker Tour events and a spot in the Inaugural WPT Walk of Fame. His victories come as no wonder, though, as Gus is also a champion Backgammon player. Like Antonio, Gus’ expert moves and plays was featured in the Going All in DVD collection.
